Today:

Throughout the charity, MSA’s ideals reflect sports core values of Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship. We strive to provide an outlet for like-minded women and create a place where women are free to participate in sports without compromising their religious or cultural beliefs.

Whilst we are ambitious, we also have a strong family ethos, derived from a commitment to provide Muslim women access to sports. Furthermore, the charity continues to develop strong links with local charities and businesses.

All this is underwritten by a diverse sponsor base, at a variety of different levels, which aids the charities financial stability and adds value to our audience.

Aspirations:

With membership and interest rising, we have ambitious plans to develop the infrastructure at the charity, to include nationwide MSA provisions. This will allow MSA to firstly become a more integral part of the local community and also provide sports and leisure venues to diversify what sports our members can get involved with. Naturally, we want to support our sponsors and build them in to our charity on a strategic level, allowing any partner to benefit from our ever-improving facilities, expanding audience and our community involvement.

History:

MSA began with one basketball session which had one 3 participants attending for many months. As word got out this steadily grew to 15 consistent weekly participants. Once we received funding from the London Mayors Office the number spiked to over 40 women a week.

MSA then created a partnership with Badminton England to offer free 6-week badminton sessions. We engaged with over 5o women a week with 95% of women coming for ethnically diverse backgrounds.

In the meantime, MSA were working with several stakeholders to create a tailored Football level 1 coaching course – aimed at engaging women to coach football and become role models for the women and young girls with the local community.

This pioneering and visionary coaching model has won multiple prestigious awards including the London Sports Workforce 2018 Award, and the inaugural FA ‘For All’ 2019 Award.

Since then, MSA has replicated this coaching model across several sports such as Badminton, Tennis, Fencing, Rowing and Archery.

MSA has always broken the mould and offered sports usually not associated with women and especially inaccessible for women from ethnically diverse backgrounds. MSA had offered sports such as Fencing, football and archery.

MSA has gone onto create 3 competitive football 5-a-side teams and a 11 a-side team.

MSA also has three teams in the North London & Essex Badminton league.

We have seen activity offerings increase from one weekly session to over fifteen sessions including spiritual and mental wellness workshops.
