About us:

Who are we and what do we do

Marple Athletic Junior Football Club is the premier Charter Standard junior football club in Marple. We are run entirely by Volunteers. Most children start with us at 4 years-old and continue on until they reach the age of 17.   We amalgamated with Mellor FC so that our players now have a pathway into Youth and Open Age football.  We welcome all children regardless of ability, experience or life difficulties as football should be accessible to all.  For this reason we do not hold trials and we support equal playing times with our main focus being on developing our players.

We ensure all coaches  achieve their FA Level 1 Introduction to Coaching with Safeguarding for Children and the FA Emergency First Aid Certificates.  We use registered FA Level 2 coaches to assist our volunteers during training and are committed to the personal development of all players throughout the club and are working with Cheshire FA on a new development programme.

We actively raise funds through organising Golf Days, Fun Days, Race Nights, Social Evening Events, Swimming Galas, Bag Packing, Sponsored Runs and Penalty Shoot Outs. We support the Marple Carnival and individuals within the Club have participated in a Santa Dash or Three Peaks Challenge to raise money for various Charities.

Why sponsor us?

We have a rapidly growing memberbership with high interaction and a wide reach on social media to promote our Sponsors.

We work hard to support our local community creating further opportunities to enhance the reputation of our Sponsors thereby generating goodwill.

We offer a range of packages to suit small and large Sponsors providing brand visibility on kit, equipment,  pitchside hoardings and througn social media.

We provide targeted recognition to all our Sponsors to maximise exposure.

We send out invitations to social and other events so you can put faces to the names and meet our hardworking  volunteers .

Continuous rapid growth means increased costs for training venues to accommodate this expansion. We currently have 25 teams that are either boys only or mixed teams playing in 3 different leagues and 6 girls only teams playing in 2 different leagues. As well as this our Development School is flourishing and now have over 40+ participants.

We want to continue to support families facing financial hardship by ensuring there are sufficient funds to allow them to continue playing sport.

We want to continue to encourage more girls to the sport by putting on girls only mini tournaments in local junior schools.

We are working with the County FA to encourage schools to invest in their sporting facilities to promote multiuse and affordable facilities in the local area

We have invested in the pitch renovations and have plans to further invest in the clubhouse and changing room provisions at the Ridge Sports Pavilion in Wood Lane Marple which is currently used by Marple College, Marple Rugby Club, Mellor FC and Marple Athletic JFC

Our History

Our first public appearance was in the Stockport Junior Blues 6-a-side tournament on the 28th April 1985. We played 5 games to reach the final where we drew 0-0 with Norris Tigers, only to lose 1-2 on a corner count.  The Club was later voted into the Stockport Metro League and we played our first competitive 11-a-side game on 7th September 1985.

In 1995 we were fortunate enough to work with the founders of Footy4Kidz, Charles Orr and Shirley Rainford.  Both were involved with the Club for many years with Charles as our Football Development Officer and Shirley as our first female coach.

Strong leadership has been an important part of our growth and we have been fortunate to have had highly dependable and competent committee members that have been able to run the club smoothly.
