About us:

Nottingham Kayak Club

Hello and welcome to the official SNAP Sponsorship profile of Nottingham Kayak Club.

We're delighted to announce that we’ve now partnered with SNAP Sponsorship and we’re looking for sponsors who are excited about affiliating themselves with a high-performing but family-friendly kayak club.

We strive to craft a partnership with our sponsors that meets their specific objectives, whether that be community gifting, social responsibility (CSR), direct sales or brand building.

We’ll work with you to develop a partnership which meets both your objectives and adds value to our members — supporting our club’s ongoing work in the community to remove barriers and make sport enjoyable, accessible and sustainable for all.

Whatever your motivation, find out more below. Thank you for visiting our profile.

Why Sponsor Us?

Association with excellence

Approximately 100 of our members take part in competition locally, with around 90 of them also competing at national level with a substantial number selected to race for Great Britain in Marathon, Sprint and Wild Water Racing.

Despite being called a "kayak" club, members also compete in both canoe and kayak at all levels in each discipline. Members selected at international level represent Great Britain up to World Championship level and in sprint also at Olympic level.

Tim Brabants became World Champion at 1000 metres in 2007 and Olympic champion in 2008. He also won bronze at 500 metres. http://www.timbrabants.com. Hayleigh Mason received a bronze medal for winning the Women's K4 at the European Championships in 2009 and then went on to partner Lani Janes (nee Belcher) to win a bronze medal at the 2017 World Marathon Championships. Lani was the singles (K1) World Champion at the same event.

At the higher levels of the sport, marathon racing also includes running with your boat. This year (2022), at the National Marathon Championships at Worcester, Nottingham Kayak Club came 2nd overall in addition to having numerous individual medallists. We've also won bronze, silver and gold medals in various European and World championships.

Exposure to a large audience

As well as having a wonderful network of members and supporters of Nottingham Kayak Club, we're next door to Nottingham Forest Football Club and as a result, we have thousands of people pass by our club each week. This provides us with an opportunity to use signage to reach a larger audience.

Additionally, we’ve recently linked up with Notts TV to increase our exposure. This will also be beneficial to sponsors.

Nottingham Kayak Club has an array of sponsorship opportunities which can be tailored to meet your objectives. Through sponsorship, our club will promote your company in a wide variety of ways enriching the profile of your business in our community.

Get involved in grassroots sport and remove economic barriers making sport affordable and accessible for all

Sponsorship of a grassroots sport delivers a much higher return on investment than traditional advertising. This is because sponsorship allows your business to become directly involved in activities that are highly valued by local consumers.

Consumers are known to form strong positive associations with sponsors who support the development of grassroots sport and contribute to the local community. With eight out of ten consumers preferring to believe in what a company does rather than what it says, it’s easy to see why many businesses are choosing to sponsor clubs like ours as a way of maximising their marketing return.

By directly supporting us, you’re helping to remove economic barriers — making sport affordable and inclusive for all.

The Club

Nottingham Kayak Club was founded by Alan Witham in the 1960s from ex-members of the Peveril School Canoe Club. Some of those original members are still paddling and helping to run our sessions today. Others are still involved in canoeing as officials.

The early premises were under a hotel on the banks of the Nottingham Canal, in the centre of the city. This gave way to an old wooden shack on the current site. The wooden shack in turn was replaced in the mid-1970s by the more substantial building that houses the club today.

We have over 230 members, with a growing proportion of families. About 100 members take part in competition locally, with around 90 of them also competing at national level with a substantial number selected to race for Great Britain in Marathon, Sprint and Wild Water Racing.

The club provides introduction sessions for all of these disciplines and at a low level, the courses, boats and distances make it easy for people wanting to try them out. With competitions locally, regionally and nationally it’s not difficult for paddlers to progress, with training matched appropriately. The club runs weekly time trials and also hosts a regional "Hasler" race as part of the national marathon series.

All 3 racing disciplines include opportunities for paddling as part of a crew with top level paddlers sometimes forming crews that introduce new paddlers. A full programme of training sessions in the gym and on the water help Junior, Senior and Veteran members to prepare for these events and form the majority of the club's weekly programme of racing activities.

If members are looking for something a little less strenuous, the club also arranges "Recreational Paddling" sessions for those just beginning to paddle, those who prefer recreational canoeing or, touring, or "just messing about on the river."

The club caters for juniors with experienced and qualified coaches. For those who want a little more excitement, we also run trips to a variety of venues for sea touring, surfing or advanced river trips.

Our aim is to make our sport inclusive and accessible to all and we have members from all demographics. We also promote our activities through local schools in 'levelling up' areas.

Aspirations

Our membership is full, with a waiting list, so we have ambitious plans to continue to develop and grow. We've already  planned an extension project which includes building a new boathouse with a clubhouse above.

Naturally, we want to support our sponsors and build them in to our club on a strategic level — allowing all of our partners to benefit from our ever-improving facilities, expanding audience and our community involvement.
