Who are we?

Stoke Newington Cricket Club is one of English’s cricket’s greatest inner-city success stories. Since its rebirth in 2008, Stokey has become one of the fastest-growing clubs in London with a junior section of 300 girls and boys, ten men’s teams and a flourishing women’s section with three teams.  Our home ground is at the iconic Hackney Marshes with a fantastic ECB-funded pavilion, three grass squares (with some of the best wickets in the City), five artificial pitches and the only outdoor nets in Hackney.  We are proud to have created a thriving home for cricket in the inner-city borough of Hackney, East London where before there was none.

Our purpose

Community cohesion
Cricket is one of the most inclusive sports, bridging Hackney’s diverse communities. With 47% of residents from minority ethnic backgrounds and some of London’s highest population density, SNCC provides safe spaces for connection and belonging.

Health & wellbeing
Nearly half of Hackney adults do no sport or active recreation, and fewer than 20% meet recommended activity levels. Grassroots cricket at SNCC combats inactivity, improving physical and mental health in an area with high deprivation.

Pathways & opportunity
Hackney has 120 areas in the top 20% most deprived nationally, limiting access to organised sport. SNCC creates pathways for local talent into the Middlesex Player Pathway, while offering mentoring and life skills.

Our aspiration

To be East London’s premier cricket club – on and off the field. That means providing a welcoming, safe and inclusive environment for adults and young people of all genders, sexualities, ethnicities and backgrounds to come together in the best possible facilities with our team of dedicated and professional coaches to achieve both their individual and the club’s potential.

What we need to achieve these goals

• Support to reach out to attract new players and retain existing ones from all backgrounds

• Funds to purchase new, fully-functioning essential equipment including: sightscreens, scoreboards and mobile nets

• Funds to attract and retain top-level coaches

• Funds to meet rapidly increasing hire costs for indoor venues

How can you help?

The club just about covers its existing costs via subs and membership fees but has no reserves to invest in any of the above.  We also face ongoing institutional challenges from those in the cricket world who don’t really appreciate the benefits and operational realities of inner-city cricket.

Your sponsorship will help us develop a sustainable foundation for cricket in Hackney, one of London’s most disadvantaged and diverse boroughs.  Our “sport for all” philosophy means our subs are substantially lower than rival clubs and no child or adult is ever turned away due to lack of means.  This remains a firm club commitment but does inevitably restrict our spending power.
