About us:

WHITETHORN BOWLS CLUB

Founded in 1953 as part of the sports and social club of computer company ICL, we have since 1995 been known as Whitethorn Bowls Club and are part of Letchworth Corner Sports Club (which also has cricket, hockey and weightlifting on the same grounds).

We are located in Hertfordshire in the original garden city of Letchworth Garden City situated in a beautiful residential location with spacious grounds including extensive free parking. The sports club has a vibrant bar and function room along with the usual sporting facilities (showers etc).

Anyone wishing to know more about our friendly club or wish to give bowls a try can contact us at : chrismorley41@gmail.com or 07733 533062.

Why Sponsor Us

Whitethorn Bowls Club principally relies on the generosity of its members to  provide funding to run as efficiently as possible. Without these contributions the club would not be able to exist in its current form or be able to achieve the goals it has set for itself in the medium to long term.

Whitethorn Bowls Club has a key mission to grow membership numbers.

The shared clubhouse is situated within the Letchworth Corner sports club grounds and has excellent amenities for players, spectators, and guests, with dining facilities for up to 50.

We play both friendly and competitive bowls and punch above our weight at county level.

We play approximately 35 friendlies and each involves typically 24 players. Our green is one of the best in the area and will help our membership grow. Our close connection with cricket, hockey and weights on site provides added exposure for potential sponsors to over 500 members.

We operate in a county with many opportunities and a great community of thousands that will see your brand.

We have a flexible approach to sponsorship, we would welcome a discussion with you on how we can support your business objectives for the year ahead, which may include:

  • Maximising your target audience to generate additional sales leads.
  • Increasing your brand awareness within local/regional communities.
  • Building or enhancing your positive CSR position in the market.
  • Educating and promoting information about your products, services, and experiences.

Should any of these align with your commercial aims, or if you have any other ideas, please do get in touch.

We recognise that without the support of our sponsors many of our club members would not be enjoying their bowls throughout the week!

Our Club Today

On gala days especially, you'll find a lively social atmosphere and wide participation throughout. We play from April to September and continue to meet socially during the winter. We maintain our green through a committed volunteer set up and require regular funds to maintain and repair expensive machines. We do not receive any direct local authority funding.

Throughout the club, Whitethorn Bowls ensures our  ideals reflect bowls core values, such as Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship. The club comes across as being warm and friendly, providing good quality bowls for all. Furthermore, the club continues to develop strong links with the local community and donates each year to the local hospice.

Aspirations

With a serious desire to increase membership, we have ambitious plans to develop the infrastructure at the club, to include a spectator cabin and improved storage for bowling kit. This will allow us to be a destination venue for hosting local competitions.

The club’s ambition is to build on recent wins in competitions like the Cairns Cup in 2022. We are aiming  to reach the team county finals again having been there twice in recent seasons.
