Why Track Academy
About us:
Our mission
Track Academy blends athletics, education, and mentoring to help young people (5-21yrs, 85% ethnic minorities, 64% girls) overcome barriers and thrive. Based in Willesden, Brent - where child poverty is 41% - our youth build confidence, resilience, and skills. 90% leave empowered with tools and networks to shape their futures.
The need
In Brent (where 85% of our young people live):
- Educational inequality: disparities in school funding, teacher shortages, and overcrowded classrooms hinder academic progress.
- Lack of safe spaces: only 28% of young people in Brent feel they have enough safe spaces to socialise, limiting positive social interaction.
- Mental health crisis: 1 in 3 children in brent are affected by bullying, impacting their wellbeing and sense of safety.
- Gender inequity in sport: by their mid-teens, over half of all girls are no longer meeting recommended activity levels, affecting their health and confidence.
- Challenging inactivity: children from the least affluent families are the least likely to be active, widening health and social inequalities.
