The Club Today

Saint Anthony’s FC are a Scottish non-league football side based in Govan, Glasgow. At present we have three teams which consist of a senior first team, an under 20’s side and an over 50’s walking football set-up. The club has roughly 100 people involved at the club through players, coaches and supporters.

In 2018 the club was adopted by Roma FC as part of the national non-league campaign and still maintains close ties with the organisation to this day. Further information on this story can be found here: https://www.asroma.com/en/news/2019/10/one-year-on-the-story-of-how-roma-adopted-saint-anthony-s

Saint Anthony’s FC are also the proud owners of a British Record. In the 1935/36 season St Anthony’s played a total of 88 competitive fixtures. This is a British record for any professional or semi-professional football club. Despite this congested schedule the Ants still managed to maintain the club’s charitable traditions for the benefit of our community.

Aspirations

Saint Anthony’s FC is attempting to raise funds to obtain its SFA National Club License. Once this is obtained the club can qualify for entry into the Scottish Cup each season. We intend to use our club to grow as a focal point within our local community offering a quality standard of football to individuals – regardless of age, ability or socio-economic background. However, our work does not stop there. As a club we want to use our platform to help develop our region in any way that we can, which is why we have plans to supply external networks such as homework clubs, employability classes and support groups.

History

Saint Anthony’s FC was formed in 1902. The club was initially part of the League of The Cross Temperance movement. Around this time plans for a town hall were in development until the venture ran out of money. The was eventually completed after a local church provided financial assistance, upon the request that it would be named St Anthony’s League of the Cross. In 1905 the club joined the league as St Anthony’s Football and Athletic Club. Since our entry the club has won every available honour except for the Scottish Junior Cup. After the war the club experienced a slight decline but was eventually saved by the diligent work from Felix Mckenna who took over in the late 50’s and restored success both on and off the field.
