Who is George?

George was introduced to handball at the age of 11 (1988) in the Doukas Sports School, initially to fill-in a few gaps in his week schedule. He opted for goalkeeping, as, at the time, he considered the other options as … a bit too physical – he felt more protected under the goalposts. He was eventually won by the sport, and participated in the school teams at national championships, winning a few prizes along the way.

Once he finished school in 1994, he moved to A.O. Politeia HC and A.O. Paradeisos Amarousiou HC, where he competed at semi-professional level on the 2nd national division, up until 2012 when he relocated to London with his family.

George had a mini-handball break until 2018, to allow for other talent to be recognised, before accidentally (others claim to have been inevitable) getting back into the game, slower but wiser, with Chelsea HC.

Besides goalkeeping, George progressively moved into the management of Chelsea HC and became a director in 2020.

George is an active advocate for developing the handball sport in England and supporting the community purpose of Chelsea HC.

George is a member of the England Handball Advisory Group.
