Today

Throughout the club, Castleford RUFC 's ideals reflect the RFU’s Core Values of Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship. We take pride in having multi-generational membership that emphasises how we have the family and the wider community as a bedrock to the club. We know that the club comes across as being warm and friendly, providing good quality sporting opportunities for all.

We run 3 Senior Men's teams, have a promising Junior Section, have run girls’ teams over the past 12 years and now have a Ladies' team - a new team for women aged 18 and over, which will be a fully inclusive team led by the players to train, develop and play games for the new union season beginning in September 2021.

We are a well-respected progressive club with excellent relations and connections with the RFU and the Yorkshire RFU.

All this is underwritten by a diverse sponsor base, at a variety of different levels, which aids the club’s financial stability and adds value to our audience.

Aspirations

Castleford RUFC Community Sports Initiative is a new CIC, formed to build on the success of Castleford RUFC to make a more extensive and positive contribution to the health and well-being of children and in and around the whole of Castleford and surrounding towns.

This will allow Castleford RUFC to firstly become a more integral part of the local community and also a destination venue providing sports and leisure facilities to a much wider audience. Naturally, we want to support our sponsors and build them in to our club on a strategic level, allowing any partner to benefit from our ever-improving facilities, expanding audience and our community involvement.

On the pitch, the club’s ambition is to build on the progression into the new season. We are aiming for promotion from Yorkshire 3 and seek to grow both our players and club. Promotion will subsequently provide our partners with additional exposure through local news outlets and provide greater ROI and awareness through sponsorship of Castleford RUFC.

History

In the early years after its formation in 1870 the club became one of the outstanding clubs in Yorkshire, providing a substantial number of players into the county side some of whom went on to represent the country. It has had various incarnations and bases over the years but since purchasing the disused premises of the Whitwood Colliery Welfare ground the Willowbridge Lane grounds and clubhouse have been the club’s home since 1974. Major improvements over the years by tireless volunteers have brought about the construction of second pitch, extensive floodlighting and drainage improvements and extensions to the clubhouse with en-suite changing facilities.

The highlight of the club’s history was the victory against Doncaster Phoenix in May 2008 at Twickenham in the RFU Junior Vase. The current junior section has been active since 2004 with many of the players going on to play for the seniors. Since formation in 2008, Castleford RUFC Girls have consistently produced some of the best teams in Yorkshire with a number of players representing county and country and won the U15s RFU National Girls’ Cup in 2015.
