About us:

Houghton Main Cricket Club

Who are we?

Houghton Main cricket club was formed in 1946 with close links to Houghton Main colliery. The club has two senior sides and various junior age group sides. We are an ECB Clubmark accredited cricket club based in Middlecliff, Barnsley. We currently have two senior men's teams playing in the South Yorkshire cricket pyramid system. Our first team is in the Yorkshire Cricket Southern Premier League Championship Section and the second team plays in the South Yorkshire Senior Cricket League Division 7. We also take part in the National Village Cup, where we won the competition in 2006 and appeared in the Lord's final as recently as 2019.

We have a strong commitment to our junior section and we have a strong plan to offer cricket across differing junior age groups working closely with the ECB to implement their junior strategies.

What is our aim?

Our aim is to be a major part of the local, former coalmining community, not just for cricket but as a social hub. We've recently benefitted from a refurbishment of our clubhouse which, even with social distancing guidelines in place, has seen the club become a much more desirable place to spend time. As well as being a social hub for the community, we strive to offer an excellent cricketing facility for players of all ages and abilities and supporters to enjoy.

What are our aspirations?

To ensure the future of the club we must ensure the future is in safe hands by expanding the junior section of the club. As well as having a successful senior set up, we must have a thriving junior setup. We have recently committed to appointing a junior coach and are looking to increase our junior offerings both through our own coaching scheme as well as schemes run by the ECB such as Dynamos and All Stars.

From a senior cricket point of view, we will look to continue our history of success in the National Village Cup by aiming to at least reach the national stages of the competition every year. We're also looking to build on strong recent showings in the league, by challenging for promotion to the Yorkshire Cricket Southern Premier League Premier Division and reaching the latter stages of the league's Whitworth Cup and T20 competition.

Why sponsor us?

As a self-financing club, our fund raising is limited to events hosted by the club and generous donations by members, supporters and local individuals or businesses. Providing quality opportunities and experiences for all members comes at a high cost to the club. Without these contributions, the club would not be able to exist in its current form or be able to achieve the goals it has set for itself in the medium to long term. The club is not for profit and re-invests all money raised back into the club for the good of the community.

The cricket club itself is part of the newly merged Yorkshire Cricket Southern Premier League which spreads across South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. We also take part in the National Village Cup which can see us travel further afield to North Yorkshire, Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Scotland, Cumbria  and The Midlands. The amount of the country our cricketing sucess sees us travelling to means our sponsorship opportunities offer real value in terms of geographical exposure. For 2021 we are looking to expand further into online streaming meaning your business can potentially reach a worldwide audience.

We have various types of sponsorship opportunities that cater for all markets, from individuals to large businesses. Some perks we can offer include, but are not limited to are:

  • Company logo on social media posts and webpages
  • Advertising banners around the ground
  • Company logo on our digital streaming offer
  • Kit sponsorship (Playing / Training / Coloured)

Houghton Main Cricket Club is part of Houghton Main Miners' Welfare Sports & Social Club which is constantly increasing in popularity as a social venue, especially following our recent refurbishment. Our Sunday cup games in particularly in the National Village Cup or Whitworth Cup are usually very well attended. As part of the Miners' Welface Sports & Social Club we share the facilities with football and darts teams, although these are run as separate entities. With the year round use of the facilities, your advertising will not only be seen on cricket match days but year round by a wide demographic of visitors.
