About us:

Houghton Main Cricket Club

We are Houghton Main cricket club, based on the site of the former Houghton Main Colliery in Middlecliff, Barnsley, South Yorkshire.

Why Sponsor Us?

As a self-financing club, our fund raising is limited to events hosted by the club and generous donations by members, supporters and local individuals or businesses. Providing quality opportunities and experiences for all members comes at a high cost to the club. Without these contributions, the club would not be able to exist in its current form or be able to achieve the goals it has set for itself in the medium to long term. The club is not for profit and re-invests all money raised back into the club for the good of the community.

The cricket club itself is part of the newly merged Yorkshire Cricket Southern Premier League which spreads across South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. We also take part in the National Village Cup which can see us travel further afield to North Yorkshire, Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Scotland, Cumbria  and The Midlands. The amount of the country our cricketing success sees us travelling to means our sponsorship opportunities offer real value in terms of geographical exposure.

We have various types of sponsorship opportunities that cater for all markets, from individuals to large businesses. Some perks we can offer include, but are not limited to are:

  1. Company logo on social media posts and webpages
  2. Advertising banners around the ground
  3. Company logo on our digital streaming offer
  4. Kit sponsorship (Playing / Training / Coloured)

Houghton Main Cricket Club is part of Houghton Main Miners' Welfare Sports & Social Club which is constantly increasing in popularity as a social venue, especially following our recent refurbishment. Our Sunday cup games in particularly in the National Village Cup or Whitworth Cup are usually very well attended. As part of the Miners' Welfare Sports & Social Club we share the facilities with football and darts teams, although these are run as separate entities. With the year round use of the facilities, your advertising will not only be seen on cricket match days but year round by a wide demographic of visitors.

Today

We have two senior teams playing in the Yorkshire Southern Cricket Premier League. Our first team plays in the Championship Section, competes for the Whitworth and T20 cups and takes part in the National Village Cup. Our second team plays in Division 7.

We have a small but growing junior section and are constantly looking at ways to improve our offering for children of all ages by hosting summer camps and training evenings throughout the season.

Aspirations

As a club we aspire to play in the highest standard available to us, the Yorkshire Southern Cricket Premier League Premier Section. We believe we are building a squad that is close to achieving that goal. Alongside the goals of the first team we want our junior section to grow and thrive and we are looking to provide a pathway from junior cricket, to second team and ultimately first team cricket.

History

Houghton Main cricket club has existed since 1946 and has grown from a facility for the local colliery into a sporting and social hub of the community. The club itself is in use year round as the ground also contains a football pitch and a darts team makes use of the bar area. The club is also looking at entering a pool team in the future.

Houghton Main has a history of success on a national scale, winning the National Village Cup in 2006 and being runners up in 2019. The club has the strength to be regular participants in the latter national stages of the competition. Our most recent success was the second team winning the play-offs for Division 7 in the shortened 2020 season.
