The Club Today

Rathbone ABC is more than just a club. We are a community. Based in the heart of London we proudly operate out of Rathbone Boxing Club, a prestigious setting with advanced facilities for all abilities. We are a non-profit community interest company that is dedicated towards the development of our members both in and outside of the ring. We ensure that our service is accessible for everyone and truly believe that our sport offers a vast array of physical and mental advantages with benefits towards cardiovascular fitness, balance, endurance, strength and hand-eye coordination. Psychologically, it fosters confidence, concentration, resilience, self-awareness and stress relief. Our competitive squad is registered with the National Governing Body, England Boxing, to compete in Olympic style boxing. The squad operates on a membership basis with Senior members (18-39) suppling an annual membership fee in addition to monthly subs which see them able to use state of the art facilities for a heavily subsidised price. We also offer free boxing sessions to a number of our local communities thanks to funding from charities, sponsorship and generous donations. History of the Club

The club formed in the later part of 2019 operating from the newly opened Rathbone Boxing Club on Rathbone Street, Fitzrovia. Initially concerned only with developing a competitive squad of committed boxers, the lockdowns that soon followed presented both the need and opportunity to conduct outreach work within local Westminster communities. The club began a two-pronged approach to participation led by Rachel Bower, an England Boxing Talent Pathway coach and serving Metropolitan Police Officer. Her experience in both youth work and elite level amateur boxing has seen the club win outreach awards and produce a team of successful boxers. In just over one full boxing season the club has produced an International Silver medallist, a National Development Championship Semi Finalist and a World Police and Fire Games Champion. The team compete regularly on club shows and in championships and tournaments including those abroad. In March 2022 our team featured in Idris Elba’s Fight School, a BBC production that saw eight young people join our newly formed sister club Hawley ABC in a bid to become amateur boxers. Our RABC boxers became regular training and sparring partners and were the benchmark for the newcomers to aspire to. The production saw our team boxing on the undercard of the grand finale – a show at the infamous York Hall in Bethnal Green.

Outreach

Rathbone ABC is a special place due to our inclusive ethos and dedication to our work within the local community. We have provided both online and in person training for numerous groups including Women and Girls, Low Socio-economic, LGBTQ+, Men over 40 and Children. We have also supported our local communities with nutrition fact sheets, self-training plans at home workouts in targeted projects to increase cohesion, reduce loneliness and reduce the risk of heart disease. We have strong partnerships with a number of community and non-profit organisations, such as Boxwise London, with whom we deliver free non-contact boxing courses for local young people, feeding them after each session and offering employment and education pathways on completion. We participated in the Governments Kickstart programme employing young people on work placements offering mentoring, equipment and vocational courses to upskill and equip them for long term meaningful employment. Our work has been formally recognised with our ‘#FightTogether against Heart Disease’ project winning the One You Westminster award in and our ‘Proud to #FightTogether’ project winning the prestigious London Sport ‘Uniting London’ award in 2021. Our outreach into our local communities continues as we deliver sessions in some of the boroughs most deprived areas through our partnership with London Sport.

Aspirations

Since our formation Rathbone Amateur Boxing Club has made a significant impact on the lives of our members. We now want to take what we have built and proceed to the next level. Sponsorship of our club will provide us with the support to achieve that. Through commercial partnerships we can proceed to establish ourselves in the following areas:

  1. Create new pathways to promote our club to potential members
  2. Upgrade our coaching and equipment to deliver quality services
  3. Develop our athletes and aid their progression into new challenges

Sponsorship will be at the heart of our operations with Rathbone ABC endeavouring to promote your business with the same level of drive, commitment and passion that we retain for our own services. Together we can produce lasting, successful relationships that will provide mutually beneficial returns for both your organisation and our own, affecting our members, local community and future for the better.
