Paralympics GB partners with Papa John's ahead of Tokyo 2020

Papa John’s has partnered with ParalympicsGB ahead of the rescheduled Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.

The partnership is set to last until the end of 2021, and will see the brand lend its support by fundraising for ParalympicsGB through a new digital marketing campaign, We Are Limitless, launched on 25th August.

The initiative will see three ambassadors, six-time gold medal-winning wheelchair athlete David Weir, grand-slam wheelchair tennis player Alfie Hewitt, and Paralympic gold medal-winning swimmer Alice Tai raise awareness of the challenges they’ve overcome on their journey, and encourage Papa John’s staff and customers to collectively raise £250,000.

“We are delighted to launch this exciting new fundraising partnership on the day the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games was originally scheduled to begin,” said Mike Sharrock, Chief Executive, ParalympicsGB.

“The delay has presented us with challenges and opportunities, and we are confident with the support of the British public our talented ParalympicsGB athletes can inspire and unite the nation once again with their performances in Tokyo.”The news comes as Papa John’s expands its sport sponsorship portfolio in sport, having signed a new partnership with the Betfred Super League earlier in August.

Giles Codd, Marketing Director, Papa John’s UK, said: “We are extremely proud to be partnering with ParalympicsGB at such an exciting time for the team. The inspirational work that ParalympicsGB does to support their athletes is so important and we’re delighted that we’re able to help by raising money and awareness.”

Papa John’s ambassador David Weir added: “I’m thrilled to be an ambassador for Papa John’s as preparations continue for Tokyo. As Paralympians, we are always looking to smash records and overcome adversity, and it’s great that Papa John’s is urging its customers to do the same and raise vital funds for Paralympic sport.”

The announcement comes just a day after the Paralympic movement celebrated the rescheduled Tokyo 2020 one year to go milestone with a new #WaitForTheGreats campaign, and also builds up to the premiere of a new Netflix documentary, Rising Phoenix. Detailing the history of the Games, the film also features a host of Paralympians as well as the Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry.
